Anhelo Hernández

Anhelo Hernández; he was born in 1922 in Montevideo - Uruguay Painter, etcher, sculptor, illustrator, essay writer, direct disciple of Joaquín Torres García. Scholarship holder at the Higher School of Art, Weisensee, Berlin. Former Postgraduate lecturer at the National School of Plastic Arts UNAM, Mexico. Top-level lecturer and researcher of the University of the Republic of Uruguay, he led the Free Orientation Workshop in Aesthetics of the “National School of Fine Arts” Institute of Montevideo. He has won the National Portrait Award twice, the single Prize of the international competition for drawing about art topics of the UNAM, Mexico. Figari Award in 2003. On the invitation of the National Chalcography of the Royal Academy of San Ferdinand in Madrid, Spain, he executed the series of digital illustrations titled “Suite Madrileña.” In 2005, he was declared Illustrious Citizen of the city of Montevideo. In 1947 he staged his first individual exhibition as a member of the Torres García Workshop, the workshop's 40th individual and group exhibition in different countries. |
