Octavio Podestá

 

Octavio Podestá, a sculptor born on April 19, 1929, in Montevideo, Uruguay.

1961 He completed the course on drawing and sculpture of the National School of Fine Arts (University of the Republic).

1964 He applied for and was awarded the municipality grant for the University of the Republic “Carlos María Herrera” (1964), to study sculpture in L’Ecole Superieur des Beaux-Arts with G. Adam and at the Académie du Feu with L. Szabo in France.

He applied for and was awarded a grant from the French government to study sculpture in Paris, France.

1970-71 He applied for and was awarded a grant from the Italian government through the Italian Institute of Culture, to do design courses in the “Instituto Statale d’Arte” of Florence, Italy.

1986 Municipal Salón Career Award (video).
1998 Peter Figari Sculpture Award by the Central Bank of Uruguay.
1999-2000 B’NAI B’RITH Fraternity Award (trip to Israel and Europe).
2003 Declared Illustrious Citizen by the City Council of Montevideo.

Works in public sites and inside the country.
